Employee Migration
In recent decades,international migration emerged as one of the main factors in social transformation and economic development in all regions of the world. Its significance gradually increased further in the twenty first century, as population mobility grows in volume and takes on new forms.One of the key factors which facilitated this process is Globalization, as a result of modern technological,and socio-economical development.At the same time, it is a cause of further social transformations in both migrant-sending and receiving countries.
In traditional societies, most of the population lived their whole lives in their native village or neighborhood. Today,migration is becoming increasingly popular and common as people move in search of security,better job opportunities and a better livelihood,:from villages to towns, from one region to another in their home country,or between countries and continents.
There are a lot of economic and social impacts as a result of this phenomenon and the intensity of these impacts depends on the nature of the individuals who migrate and their educational and skill levels.
Boyle et al (1998)defined migration as crossing the boundary of a political or administrative unit for a certain minimum period.
Causes of migration
International migration is an integral part of globalization, which may be characterized as the widening,deepening and speeding up of worldwide inter-connectedness in all aspects of contemporary social life (Held et al. 1999, 2).
The key indicator of globalization is the rapid increase of all sorts: finance, trade,ideas, pollution, media products and people between countries and economies. The key organizing structure for all these flows is the global network, which comes in the form of transnational corporations, global markets,international governmental and non governmental organisations, global criminal syndicates, or transnational cultural communities.
Castells (1996) stated that the key tool is modern information and communications technology, including the internet,improved telephone connections and cheap air travel. Study carried out by Kritz et al. (1992)called ‘migration systems theory’.has come up with an interesting approach to analyzing the various factors causing emigration.A migration system is constituted by two or more countries which exchange migrants with each other.It is essential to examine both ends of the flow and study all the associations be it economic,political,military or cultural etc,between the places concerned.A major factor which decides migration movement is the existence of prior links between sending and receiving countries which can be based on colonization, political influence, trade, investment or cultural ties.
