Recruitment of employees
Recruitment of Employees
Recruitment of employees is a key function in Human Resource Management of a company which plays a very significant role in any organization. At the same time recruitment and selection have image problem. First this function is often viewed as "old “ingrained HRM domains. It seems like the traditional recruitment and selection procedures have been around for decades which is at odds with the ever changing internal and external environments of organizations. Hence practitioners often wonder whether there are any new research based ways for recruiting and selecting personal.
Armstrong (2014)has
defined Recruitment as the process of finding and engaging the people the
organization needs.
Throughout the end of
the twentieth century and into the start of the twenty-first, scholars and
practitioners have argued that firms are in a war for talent, and that the
firms that are best able to attract and retain employees will be in a
position to outperform their rivals (Michaels et al., 2001; Woodruffe, 1999) In
a global economy, companies are looking for new growth opportunities and
hiring new staff at a pace to help them achieve this growth. At the same
time, labor markets are beginning to shrink as the baby boom generation
employees begin to retire and are replaced by a reduced supply of younger
workers (Dohm, 2000). In the midst of these Noteworthy environmental
changes, recruitment and selection, has emerged as arguably the most
critical human resource function for organizational survival and success.
Firms across a wide
range of sectors and especially those in knowledge-based industries (financial
services, high technology, pharmaceuticals) are engaged in fierce and
continuing battles with their competitive organizations for the recruitment of
the best and brightest new hires.
Recruitment process
A
recruitment process is an organization-specific model of candidate sourcing for
the purpose of finding and hiring new employees. Typically, the ownership of
the recruitment process resides within the Human Resources function, although
companies also use third-party recruiting firms. Ownership can vary depending
upon the specific organizational structure of the company carrying out the
process.
The recruitment and selection
process
The stages of
recruitment and selection are:
1 Defining requirements.
2 Attracting candidates.
3 Sifting applications.
4 Interviewing.
5 Testing.
6 Assessing candidates.
7 Obtaining references.
8 Checking applications.
9 Offering employment.
10 Following up.
